================================= RIKEN Symposium Physics at Drip Lines 13 to 15 of February, 2001 ================================= First Circular We are pleased to inform you that the international symposium "Physics at Drip Lines" will be held from the 13 to the 15 of February, 2001 in RIKEN, Japan. The progress in the study of nuclear physics near drip lines has been marvelous during last few years. Several interesting and exciting phenomena have been found experimentally through these studies. Theoretical predictions on new structure problems are also proposed to be confirmed. In RIKEN, the first stage construction of the RIB factory started last April and will be completed within a few years. This new facility will open widely new possibilities of the study of nuclear structure physics near drip lines. Under these circumstances, it is important to review the progress of research during the last few years and discuss intensively possible new directions of the study of nuclei near drip lines. In this symposium, high priority is paid on the physics which will be accessed experimentally in a few years. We would like to focus mainly on the discussion of nuclear structure problems from light to medium nuclei with the mass number A=10$-$50. The symposium will consist of invited talks and oral presentations selected from submitted contributions. We will keep ample time for the discussion during and after the sessions. Main topics of the symposium are 1. Soft dipole mode, coherent mode and molecular structure in drip line nuclei. 2. Change of shell structure and new magicity in nuclei far from the stability line. 3. Effects of halo and skin vs. deformation on radii, magnetic and quadrupole moments. 4. Continuum, clustering and resonance effects in halo nuclei. 5. Effective interactions in nuclei near drip lines. 6. Other related topics. The conference will start in the morning of February 13 and end in the late afternoon of February 15 and will take place in the Okochi Memorial Hall of RIKEN. Detailed information about the conference site and transportation will be provided later. The registration fee is 3000 yen which should be paid upon arrival in Japanese currency. The registration fee will include a copy of the proceedings, a booklet of abstracts, costs of coffee and the conference banquet. The conference banquet will be held on Feb. 13 at Hirosawa club on RIKEN campus. We will book accomodation around RIKEN for participants. The conference proceedings will be published. The next circular will be sent at the middle of January 2001 with a preliminary program. Organizing Committee: H. Sagawa (co-chairman, Aizu), T.
