PREPARATION FOR INSTALLATION The distribution contains programs and libraries for Linux64 (64bit). Install MIDAS base package for your machine architecture from http://npg.dl.ac.uk/MIDAS/download/introduction.html Install in any suitable path. cd In the following, substitute for that directory. This would unpack into, for example, /MIDAS_base_220114 Login as root and make symlink /MIDAS e.g. ln -s /MIDAS_base_220114 /MIDAS OR install as non-root and set environment variable MIDASBASE e.g. setenv MIDASBASE /MIDAS_base_220114 Make sure that $(MIDASBASE)/log directory exists and is writeable by all. cd $MIDASBASE tar xf SHARED MEMORY SPECTRUM SERVER (shmsas) shmsas is now executed for each user automatically in MTsort Setup The sort setup window checks if shmsas is already running and automatically executes it if not. The shared memory spectrum server can be restarted, if necessary, using the "Run SHMSAS" button in the Setup window. MIDAS EXPERIMENT A MIDAS "experiment" needs to be created and connected. This is explained in the following section, Normally, a temporary experiment is created automatically by MTsort Setup if one does not exist, SHMSAS APPARATUS The old style RPC apparatus which needed attach/remove/claim/free should be removed from any existing experiments. Shmsas should be stopped and removed from any init script. A shared memory spectrum server SOAP record needs to exist in the current MIDAS EXPERIMENT. This is of the form ... SortSas localhost:10235 Spectrum SpectrumService SpectrumService SpectrumClient This definition should appear in the SOAPServers file in the experiment directory, RUNNING ... There is an execution script in MTsort/bin_Linux64/mtsort-session This may be copied into a PATH directory.
