Exciton

This represents an excited electron and its accompanying hole still electrostatically attracted to each other. 

In terms of band structure model this represents the elevation of an electron to an extra band just below but continuous with the conduction band. The electron does not have enough energy to be free within the conduction band, it is still associated with the hole it leaves.
