Welcome and introduction

Chris Hall opened the meeting with an introduction to Daresbury.

Project management

The ORTEC planar detector has an arrival date of September 2004.

Design Review

Dave Seddon presented the current design for the gantry that will house the two planar detectors.  Concerns were raised about the lack of space around the system and also the lack of access to the anethitised rodent.  Current systems have open access to three sides to monitor the animal during scanning.  Suggestions of changes to the current design is to ask manufacturer to move central location of cold finger to one side to allow more space or to move the detectors in such a way as to have them moving together not in opposed motion.

Action              Need to visit Christies to see current Hydaq system.

Need to see if these are real constraints or if by introducing monitors into the system the space limitations are eradicated.

Need to see general system for the administration of anesthetic.

Feedback

The planar detector under order will be the most efficient system to date but with this comes problems.  The algorithms to date will require modification to take into account this increase in resolution, both energy and spatial.

Talks

Toby Beveridge, Monash Univeristy – “Monte Carlo Simulations of Compton Camera”

John Gillam, Monash University – “Electronic Collimation and the Possibilities of SmartPET
