Medical Imaging Group Meeting Minutes : 26th February 2004

Attendees : P Nolan, A Boston, M Ibison, J. Sampson, H Scraggs,  S Gros,

                   J Norman, A Mather, G Turk, B McGuirk,

Apologises : D.  Seddon sends his apologises but has sent the schematics for the SMA connectors to be discussed in meeting.

Matters arising from meeting at Daresbury (18-02-04) :

Due to the reaction from the Christie’s group when shown the schematics of the detector system we need to arrange a meeting there to see their current setup and we need access to the life support system and chute that animal sits in.  It looks like drawings as they stand have a 90 degree angle which doesn’t allow access to the animal during scan.  Solvable but requires visit to see for ourselves.

Image reconstruction – important to relate position resolution to position resolution inside image.  Although Christies are experts in reconstruction they don’t have any experience with detectors with such good energy resolution.  The algorithms to date will have to be modified.  This will inherently lead to an increase in project time to do this.

GEANT findings :

Looking into the differences between results for GEANT and MCNP simulations.  AndyM has turned on low energy physics option in GEANT but the outputs still have differences.  MarkI has also noticed that when he was comparing programs such as Penelope and MCNP, GEANT was consistently giving different results.  The cross section libraries are more conducive to high energy physics.
