Bremsstrahlung
Previous Up

When electrons are absorbed in matter they are decelerated and emit Bremsstrahlung braking radiation. Consequently any source emitting b particles will have a Bremsstrahlung spectrum superimposed on the gamma ray spectrum.

The presence of this radiation causes a considerable increase in peak background at low energy and reduces the precision of measurement.
